Fundamentals of Insurance Immersion
The Fundamentals Immersion Course is a four-day class (Monday to Thursday) held in downtown Vancouver. It's an instructor-led review of the textbook. The class is taught lecture style and focuses on ensuring that the source material (the textbook) for the licensing exam is covered in depth. This class does not teach soft skills required for an insurance career. Its only purpose is to prepare you for the Fundamentals of Insurance licensing exam.
Classes run from 8:00 a.m to 4:30 p.m. The exam is written on Friday morning.
Fundamentals Immersion Courses are NOT held at our office on Granville Street in Vancouver. After you have registered and your payment is processed, you’ll receive an email with all the class details within 2 – 3 business days. If you don’t receive that email, contact firstname.lastname@example.org.
The 2019 fee for a Fundamentals Immersion Course is $695 for IBABC members and $795 for non-members, including GST. Due to the popularity of these classes, you must submit full payment to guarantee your place.
Please Note: In 2020, our Fundamentals Immersion Courses will no longer include the paper exam on the Friday. All Fundamentals Immersion students will therefore write their exams online, the week after their immersion course ends. With this change, the following prices will apply to 2020 Fundamentals Immersion Courses:
- The fee for IBABC-members will be $519, which includes $20 for textbook shipping & handling and GST ($499 if you pick up the textbook from our downtown Vancouver office);
- The fee for non-members will be $619, which includes $20 for textbook shipping & handling and GST ($599 if you pick up the textbook from our downtown Vancouver office).
Starting in 2020, immersion students must register and pay for the online Fundamentals exam separately.
You may only pay an IBABC-member price if you’re currently employed by a brokerage that’s a member in good standing of IBABC.
For the fee you get:
- Intensive classroom instruction
- The textbook (mailed to you before the course starts)
- Supplementary course materials (resource guide and practice exam with marker's guide)
- The exam.
If you already have a current textbook and don't need to purchase a new one, minus that cost from your Fundamentals Immersion Course fee.
You’re required to read the entire textbook before the immersion course starts to be ready for in-class discussion.
Registration is cut off two weeks before the start of each immersion course, and class size is limited. Register early to avoid disappointment!

Starting in 2020 there will be no paper-exam sitting on the Friday morning of the Fundamentals Immersion Course. Instead, you'll write your exam online after the class has ended. You'll be strongly encouraged to write your exam early in the week after completing the five-day class. This is so the course content will still be fresh in your memory.
You'll have to register separately for your online Fundamentals exam.
If you're from outside Vancouver and are attending an immersion course, you can stay wherever you like. Within walking distance is the Days Inn at 921 West Pender Street, and the YWCA Hotel at 733 Beatty Street.
Textbook fees are non-refundable.
If you cancel at least 14 days before the course start date, course fees are refunded less a $100 administration fee. If you cancel 14 days or less before the course start date, there's no refund.
If you would like to change your immersion-course date after the withdrawal deadline, a $75 fee for deferral is applied to the change.
