We are looking for a Senior Commercial Underwriter to provide underwriting support and mentorship to our team!

What you will do in the role:
- Execute individual pricing and risk selection decisions within the assigned underwriting authority and in accordance with company guidelines
- Serve as a Casualty Expert, creating guidelines, and mentoring junior staff.
- Provide mentorship to junior underwriters
- Analyze and help update wordings in conjunction with the Lloyds contracts
- Collect background information and assessments of risk
- Analyze statistical data using specialist computer programs
- Consistently make sensible underwriting judgements and negotiations
- Determine premiums and prepare competitive quotes
- Decide the wording of policies
- Prepare insurance policy terms and conditions
- Work effectively within a team to achieve efficient operations, business improvements, and profitable underwriting results
- Keep detailed records of policies underwritten and decisions made
- Balance between mass and homogeneity of risks to achieve predictability of future results
- Follow applicable insurance laws
- Other duties as directed
You can offer SeaFirst:
- A minimum of 8 years’ commercial lines underwriting experience
- Valid CIP designation
- Experience in both British Columbia and Alberta, preferred
- Proficient knowledge in the areas of underwriting, commercial liability, insurance policies, and commercial property
- Computer skills, including familiarity with Microsoft Excel and Word and the ability to operate all software used at the firm
- Effective written communication skills, and verbal communication skills including presenting and listening

- Remote with in British Columbia or Alberta
- Monday to Friday, 8:30am – 5:00pm
- Permanent, Full-time employment
