UNDERWRITER

Location and status

  • Victoria or Burnaby, BC
  • Full-time, Permanent (35 hrs/week)
  • In-Office, Monday to Friday

Job Summary:

Underwrite Commercial Accounts with main focus on New Business opportunities optimizing our Lloyd’s Coverholder contracts to grow our Acera portfolio.

Essential Job Functions:

Primary duties include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • New Business Production will be the focus of this role for our Acera Brokers Teams
  • Analyze property and liability requests for primarily quotes, would include supporting renewals, policy changes with recommend innovative solutions;
  • You will be responsible for ensuring compliance to our Lloyd’s Underwriting guidelines.
  • Negotiate and underwrite business using our Acera philosophies and strategies;
  • Refer risks that are not within assigned authority levels;
  • Proactively grow our portfolio through strategy, development and implementation in tandem with Acera Program Services Team
  • Maintain a strong working knowledge of contracts, forms, wordings and company products;
  • Build and maintain healthy relationships with the commercial team;
  • Participate in regular Team meetings; annual contract renewals and planning sessions;
  • Attend company functions and Industry events; Remain up to date with industry knowledge;
  • Prioritize daily time-sensitive tasks and manage workload
  • Support your colleagues during absences and busy periods
  • Mentor, provide feedback and participate in meetings and daily work processes/discussions
  • Adhere to all Company policies and procedures, and industry standards
  • Participate in learning opportunities to develop skill-set and knowledge
  • Develop personal development plan and participate in Company performance review process
  • All other duties as directed by management.

Competencies & Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 3-5 years of commercial insurance experience;
  • Previous commercial underwriting experience is required; 
  • Completion of or working towards a Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP) designation;
  • University degree would be considered an asset;
  • Knowledge of Commercial Insurance wordings;
  • Strong analytical, assessment, decision-making, and organizational skills;
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills;
  • Sound knowledge of Microsoft Office products and computer skills;
  • Reliable; Solution-oriented with ability to problem-solve
  • Motivated and a self-starter with strong time management skills;
  • Ability to multi-task and work in a changing environment.
  • Knowledge of Epic brokerage management system
  • Positive attitude and ability to work with team
  • Ability to self-manage and maintain a varying workload
  • High degree of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Solution-oriented with ability to problem-solve
