The Canadian Accredited Insurance Broker (CAIB) program is a national, professional designation program that's provided by the Insurance Brokers Association of Canada (IBAC). Completion of all four CAIB courses will earn you a CAIB designation.
What’s New?
CAIB New Edition 1.0 has been updated and modernized. The New Edition includes several key changes and improvements:
- The content has been updated to reflect current industry practices and includes new sample forms and policy wording. The new edition incorporates key concepts, scenarios, and case studies to connect technical information to real-world applications.
- Insurance Brokers Association of Canada (IBAC) will review the content annually to keep it current.
- The online learning platform features interactive elements like "click-to-reveal" content, digital notes, and a bookmarking function.
- Practice quizzes are now available after each module to help reinforce learning.
- The CAIB 4 exam now includes multiple-choice, definition, and short-answer questions to align with the other CAIB exams.
- CAIB 1 will now include the ICBC Autoplan Supplement.

Which Edition Do I Study?

CAIB 1 and CAIB 4 New Edition study materials will fully replace the previous editions.
CAIB 2 and CAIB 3 must be taken using the same edition. If you have completed CAIB 2 using previous editions, you must continue with the previous edition of CAIB 3 (and vice versa) to ensure consistency in your learning path.
Important Note:
- Your exam will be based on the textbook edition you studied.
- You won't be required to retake any CAIB exams you have already achieved.
- Previous edition exams will no longer be available starting Fall 2026.

Instructor-Led Study Options
A virtual classrooom experience with a live instructor and classmates. Students receive access to the course portal for 30 days following the final class, which includes recorded instructional slides and a discussion forum. Assessment is built throughout the program with tests after each module, along with a mock midterm and mock final exam. All tests and mock exams are marked by an instructor and include feedback to support learning and exam readiness. Students who write the exam within the exam window and do not pass are eligible to participate in a rewrite tutorial at no additional cost.

Four-Day Focus Immersion1 (online): For your accelerated learning experience, this concentrated course is delivered over four consecutive days (Thursday to Sunday, 9:00 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.). This format is ideal if you can dedicate a focused four-day period to your studies for rapid review and exam preparation.

Weekend Warrior Immersions1 (online): Perfect for you if you prefer to study over the weekend, this intensive course is delivered over two consecutive weekends (Saturday and Sunday, 9:00 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.). This format allows you to quickly complete your education and prepare for your exam.

Seven-Week Evening Immersion1 (online): This flexible option is designed for you if you prefer a more gradual pace. You will attend a single evening class each week for seven consecutive weeks (6:00 p.m. – 8:30 p.m., excluding holidays). This format allows you to balance your studies with work or other commitments while giving you ample time to absorb the material.

Exam Prep Clinic (online): Looking for a final boost of confidence before your CAIB exam? This three-hour prep clinic is the perfect addition to your study material. It's designed to help you review key concepts and refine your skills right before the exam. This is an ideal way to solidify your knowledge and make sure you're ready for exam day.
1 All instructor-led immersion courses include a rewrite tutorial. To be eligible for the rewrite tutorial, you must write your exam within the exam write window.

This guided, self-paced virtual learning experience allows students to progress through the course on their own schedule. Students receive four months of access to the online course portal, which includes video recordings of the instructional slides. Assessment is built into the program with one progress test after each module and a final mock exam. All tests are self-graded, with an answer key provided to support review, reinforce learning, and help students prepare for the final exam. | Exam Info |
CAIB online exams are made up of multiple-choice, definitions and short-answer questions. You are given 3.5 hours to complete and a minimum grade of 60% is required to pass a CAIB exam.
To register for your exam you must:
- Determine exam date. Exams must be written in exam write window to be eligible for rewrite tutorial (if applicable).
- Select proctor option (see below)
- Complete the exam registration form contained in your purchase confirmation email.
Proctor Options
IBABC Vancouver Office: You may write your exam at the IBABC office located at 1600-543 Granville Street. Once your exam registration has been processed, you will be sent a link to the in-office exam booking calendar. In-office hours: Tuesdays 9:00 - 12:30 p.m. and Wednesdays 12:00. - 3:30 p.m.
Virtual proctoring service: You may write your exam with a virtual proctor. Extra time may be required for initial set up. Once your exam registration has been processed, you will be sent a link to the virtual exam booking calendar. Additional fees apply.
Active nominee or appointed proctor: You may write your exam with an active P&C Insurance nominee or appointed proctor. Return completed CAIB Exam Proctor Nomination & Policy Form as an a PDF to the contact information shown on the form for approval.
Educational institution (accredited college or university)
You may write your exam at an accredited college or university. Return completed CAIB Exam Proctor Nomination & Policy Form as a PDF to the contact information shown on the form for approval. Additional fees apply.
Getting your CAIB Exam Result
Your CAIB exam result will be emailed to you within seven (7) business days after you write the exam. You will NOT be given a copy of your marked exam or an opportunity to discuss your exam answers. If you do not pass, you may register to rewrite the exam. Each rewrite fee is $195.
Challenging your CAIB Exam Result
You may challenge your exam result by having your exam re-marked. Please note that all exams with results between 55% and 59% are automatically re-marked to ensure the accuracy of the result. This re-marking is done before results are emailed. If you would like an additional re-mark, you must submit your request within five (5) business days of receiving your result and pay a $75 remark fee.

Level 1 Licensing Qualification
Successful completion of your CAIB 1 exam is the first step to obtaining your General Insurance Salesperson Level 1 Licence.
Level 2 Licensing Qualification
Successful completion of your CAIB 2 & CAIB 3 exams qualifies you for a General Insurance Salesperson Level 2 Licence.
Level 3 Licensing Qualification
Successful completion of your CAIB 4 exam is the first step to obtaining your General Insurance Salesperson Level 3 Licence.
