IBABC Post-secondary Scholarships

SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATIONS ARE NOW CLOSED FOR 2024.

The applications will open again in early 2025 with a deadline of March 31, 2025. Applicants must be employees or relatives of B.C. insurance industry practitioners.

A.H.B. "Spoon" Wotherspoon Memorial Scholarship

  • Administered by IBABC
  • Awarded each spring
  • $1,000 for first year of post-secondary education
  • Applicants must be employees or relatives of BC insurance industry practitioners
  • Applicants must show a commitment to community service
  • Preference given to applicants with a connection to an IBABC member.

Autoplan Brokers Legacy Scholarship

  • Administered by IBABC and CUISA
  • Awarded each autumn
  • $2,500 for first or subsequent year of post-secondary education
  • Applicants must be licensed and employed at Autoplan brokerages in BC or children of Autoplan brokers
  • Applicants must show commitment to community service.

Central Agencies Ltd., Dennis MacNeill Memorial Scholarship

  • Administered by IBABC
  • Awarded each spring
  • $2,500 for first year or subsequent year of post-secondary education
  • Applicants must be employees or relatives of BC insurance industry practitioners
  • Applicants must show a commitment to community service
  • Preference given to applicants with a connection to an IBABC member.

Joe Stonehouse Mentorship Scholarship,
presented by Brody Stonehouse, AC&D Insurance

  • Administered by IBABC
  • Awarded each spring
  • Preference for this $2,500 scholarship given to applicants for first or subsequent year of study in a post-secondary institution
  • Applicants must be employees or relatives of BC insurance industry practitioners
  • Applicants must demonstrate mentoring, dedication, and diverse personal interests

John F. Hamilton Scholarship

  • Administered by IBABC
  • Awarded each autumn
  • Preference for this $3,500 scholarship given to applicants in second year of university
  • Applicants must be employees or relatives of BC insurance industry practitioners
  • Applicants must show commitment to community service and extra-curricular activities
  • Preference given to applicants with a connection to an IBABC member.

John M. Toomer Education Scholarship

  • Administered by IBABC
  • Awarded each spring
  • $5,000 for first or subsequent year of study in a post-secondary institution
  • Applicants must be employees or relatives of BC insurance industry practitioners
  • Applicants must show commitment to community service, extra-curricular activities, and mentoring or tutoring others
  • Added preference given to applicants intending to pursue a career in the education field upon completion of post-secondary studies
  • Preference given to applicants with a connection to an IBABC member.

Renate Mueller Trailblazer Scholarship, Recognizing Future Women Trailblazers,
presented by Westland Insurance

  • Administered by IBABC
  • Awarded each spring
  • $2,500 for first or subsequent year of study in a post-secondary institution
  • Applicants must show commitment to community service
  • Applicants must demonstrate dedication to professional learning & development, active in mentoring others
  • Applicants must share their goals in how they will amplify the advancement of gender equity and support for women in business

Vancouver Insurance Association (VIA) Scholarship

  • Administered by IBABC and the VIA
  • Awarded each spring
  • $1,000 for first or subsequent year of study in a post-secondary institution
  • Applicants must have worked at least three years in the BC insurance industry, currently working full-time at either a brokerage or an insurance company and, if a broker, must be a member in good standing with IBABC.

IBABC CAIB Awards

CAIB Awards - IBABC presents awards to those who achieve the highest CAIB exam scores in the province of BC. These awards, which include commemorative plaques, are presented each spring at IBABC's annual conference.

Other Insurance Industry Scholarships

The following scholarships may be available to family members of some BC brokerage employees. But they're not administered by IBABC. Please see the scholarship websites for further information.

Salute Scholarship Awards

Toronto Insurance Conference (TIC) Scholarships Program

  • Administered by the Insurance Institute of Ontario
  • Preference for this $5,000 scholarship given to applicants in second year university or higher
  • Applicants must be sponsored by a TIC brokerage that's a member of the Insurance Institute of Ontario, OR unsponsored with a clear intent towards a career in an insurance brokerage (see essay requirement).
